The Zine is »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵ Community College's (»Æ¹ÏÊÓƵ) journal of literary and visual arts. For the 2024-2025 academic year, the journal will be advised by Deirdre Sullivan and Julianna Spallholz of the English Department.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What kind of work is Zine looking for?

    Zine has published poetry, short fiction, creative nonfiction, script, mixed or cross-genre work, and critical essays, and is open to considering any form of writing that students wish to submit. We ask that written work be double-spaced and not exceed 12 typed pages.

    Zine also considers any form of visual art, as long as images of the work are submitted digitally.

  • Who is on the staff of Zine?

    Zine is curated and managed by a faculty advisor and by a staff of student editors. Student editors are responsible for reading submissions and making recommendations regarding content for each new issue. Students interested in joining Zine's editorial staff should contact the Faculty Advisor.

  • What is the deadline for writing and art submissions?

    The submission deadline for the 2025 issue will be in early February, 2025, but you are welcome to send them in early! Submission received after the deadline will be considered for the following year's issue.

  • How can one obtain copies of the journal?

    Copies of Zine are always free!

    • Back copies of past issues are available in various places on campus, including the (temporary) library or the Writing Center, located on the 4th Floor of Melville.
  • What is the "launch event"?

    Each year, to celebrate the publication of a new issue, Zine has held an on-campus event that includes student readings of their work, student artist talks, snacks and treats, and free copies of the issue.

  • If my work is published in the journal, do I have to read it aloud or give an artist talk at the launch event?

    No. A presentation at the launch event is not at all required, though we do think it's a great opportunity for students to show off their creative and scholarly accomplishments!
